About the Teacher Learning Project
In 2005, a team of teacher educators and scholars came together at the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education at Brandeis University to form what has become the Mandel Center’s Teacher Learning Project The project has three complementary goals:
- Help individual day schools create comprehensive, school-based systems of induction for new teachers;
- Distill lessons for the field about what it takes to do so effectively; and
- Create a compendium of tools, resources and ideas to support other school leaders interested in this work.
Working with teams in six Boston area Jewish day schools, our coaches created a robust set of tools to help school leaders understand induction, assess their schools' current strengths and weaknesses, and begin to create the structures and practices associated with strong systems of support. We collected data about the progress our partner schools were making and the hurdles they faced along the way.
Building on our research and field experience, we refined our tools to create this website and its Teacher Learning Toolkit, available to school leaders across the country, with free access for all.
